Young Identity began as a voluntary youth arts and performance project founded by director, Shirley May and Ali Gadema; based within Manchester Libraries in 2006.
Later, in 2008 the project evolved receiving numerous small project grants. From 2012, the project hosted by Commonword was awarded two long-term, large-scale grants from The Big Lottery Fund.
Young Identity was kindly hosted by the Manchester based charity Commonword (charity no. 1152499) for 6 years of its life. In 2018 Young Identity became its own charity (charity no. 1181088). Some of the founding members of Young Identity, now known as Inna Voice, work alongside Young Identity.
